Adopted
I thought since my illustrious fellow blogger, ITF, posted a review of VOP's new album, "Deliverance", I would share a few thoughts about a cd that was handed to me by a co-worker. Admittedly, I don't know any of the singer/musicians, but I still feel led to recommend this group and their work.
The cd I heard was "In His Presence" by Adopted, a quartet of instrument-playing young ladies. While the songs were accompanied by violin, keyboard, guitar, and bass, I did not feel that the accompaniment in any way detracted from the message of the songs. I love acappella, but I also enjoy good accompanied music, and this definitely qualifies. I enjoyed the poignant strains of the violin, and the flourishes of sound on the keyboard.
The vocalists were talented, as well. I generally prefer male quartets, simply because these allow me to sing along in a comfortable range. These ladies harmonize well, and simply. There are no complex chordings that lean on the instrumentation to make them work. These songs could be sung acappella without a hitch. The only thing that really stood out to me was some of the extremely high pitches of the harmony parts.
One song I especially appreciated was "The Air I Breathe", written by Marie Barnett in 1995. I have heard this song sung by a big name Christian Contemporary artist, and enjoyed it, but this was WAY better. The piano accompaniment was excellent, and the vocal harmony was tight, worshipful....I got chills. All my favorite worship songs do that to me.
Adopted now has a new album out, entitled "Love So Amazing", and I hope to get a copy sometime in the future. Check them out, and listen to the song clips. The download time is very short, and I think you will be impressed.
